A cliff edge, a downwards slant into a shimmering ocean - a case of beautiful, yet deadly - this particular spot had a reputation for taking lives. All of the same strange cause.
A girl, young and innocent - but as beautiful as the surroundings themselves. She stood upon the rocks, barefooted, yet it seems she felt nothing. She wore a little girls' gown, which the wind had no effect on - it did not sway nor blow around - like the girl wasn't even there, but a hologram from a different time, a different place. Her eyes were as silver as the rocks, with a glow, it seems, from the moonlight shining upon her. A golden lock of windswept hair brushed against her delicate, rosy cheeks a she moved forward. Towards the ocean.
A man watched from a distance. His eyes squinted, trying to focus on what he was seeing. Was he awake? Or sleeping, dreaming all about this? He moved closer to the area where the girl stood, stumbling on loose rocks as he went. But he was still too far away.
The girl, whose name was never known and never shall was moving ever closer to the edge. When she reached it, she knelt down, too feel - as it seems - the water. It trickled through her fingers, back into the ocean. She stood up again and moved even closer, so her feet were fully covered by the freezing waters. And still, she moved further, not losing her grip on the slippery rocks.
The man, now panic-stricken, called out to the girl, but alas, she did not respond. He staggered forward, holding out his arm. No use. The girl was waist-deep in the water. If he didn't get to her, she would either die from drowning or from the shock of the cold water. Neck-deep. No going back. He took a breath, and just as she went completely under, jumped in after her.
He swam around frantically, but couldn't see her - she couldn't have just vanished. He swam around more, but no, he couldn't see where she'd gone. He closed his eyes, for just a second, reopened them and... there she was. Floating in the water. Looking straight at him... but she was smiling. Not that of a smile of a child her age - more sinister. He didn't like it. This child was not so innocent... He tried to swim up to the surface, for air, but somehow couldn't. Like she was holding him down. He struggled to get free. No use. He gasped accidentally, swallowing a gulp of water, then another, then another...
